SHU Against Big East... Sacred Heart is 2-12 all-time against Big East opponents. Both wins come over Providence College in SHU's Division I era. On November 18, 2005, the Pioneers opened what would be a championship season with the 65-49 win over the Friars. The next year, they added another win against Providence, this time at home, 76-69. In addition to their one loss to Providence, Sacred Heart is 0-3 against Georgetown, who they lost to last year 90-63 in the first round of the Preseason WNIT, 0-2 against Marquette, 0-1 against St. John's, who they lost to 77-72 in overtime in the season-opener, 0-3 against Seton Hall, and 0-2 against Villanova.
The Head Coaches... Jessica Mannetti is in her first season as a collegiate head coach when the Pioneers tip-off in 2013-14. She comes to Sacred Heart after spending the past four seasons as an assistant coach at Hofstra University on Krista Kilburn-Steveskey's staff. While at Hofstra, Mannetti helped guide the Pride to a 72-55 record as well as a pair of appearances in the WNIT. Now in his 36th year as head coach of the Villanova women's basketball program, Harry Perretta led Villanova to its 10th NCAA Tournament appearance last year by guiding the Wildcats to a 21-11 overall record. This was the team's 11th postseason appearance in the last 14 years and the 21 wins represents the 15th 20-win season for Perretta and the Wildcats.
