TEMPE, ARIZ. (December 7, 2013)—Ericka Norman (Chino Hills, Calif.) led the Pioneers with 14 points as the Sacred Heart women's basketball team fell to Arizona State 81-49 in the ASU Classic Saturday afternoon. Norman did all of her scoring in the second half shooting a perfect 7-for-7. With the loss, SHU falls to 2-5 this season.
Gabrielle Washington (Mesa, Ariz.) accounted for Sacred Heart's first four points, but 13 turnovers and sloppy play hurt the Pioneers early. SHU only managed to shoot 19.2% from the field in the first half, as the strong Sun Devils team held them to just 11 points.
The Pioneer offense turned it around in the second half, nearly doubling their first half total within the first four minutes. Senior Norman a huge part of that turnaround, knocking down all four of her shots for eight points in the few minutes. ASU answered with a six-point run that stifled SHU's offensive spurt.
Sacred Heart held strong shooting 47.2% in the second half, but was unable to recover from the deficit.
Tomorrow, the Pioneers will play Harvard University at noon in Sacred Heart's final game of the ASU Classic.
