FAIRFIELD, CONN. (February 1, 2014)—For the second time this season, five Pioneers reached double-digit points as the Sacred Heart women's basketball team topped Fairleigh Dickinson 85-70 Saturday afternoon in the William H. Pitt Center. Hannah Kimmel (Harpursville, N.Y.) led the way with 19 points as SHU improves to 10-10 on the season and 7-2 in conference.
Sacred Heart posted its highest field goal percentage of the season, 50.0%, knocking down 29 of 58 shots against the Knights. Freshman Shelby Hickey (Littleton, Colo.) reached a career-high 13 points in the win. The Pioneers' leading scorer Gabrielle Washington (Mesa, Ariz.) tallied 16 points, as Adaysha Williams (LaCrosse, Wis.) and Johanna Lopez (Silver Spring, Md.) recorded 11 each.
Enjoli Bland (Queen Creek, Ariz.) laid one in for the first points of the game, but the Knights quickly answered with one of their own to even the score. The Pioneers retook the lead with back-to-back triples from Washington and Kimmel, 8-2.
The Knights cut SHU's lead to four points hitting consecutive shots (between 7-6), but Hickey landed a big three stretching the Pioneers' lead to 30-23 with six minutes left in the half.
Sacred Heart, who shot 45.5% in the first half, continued to expand their lead heading into halftime up 41-31.
