Haines Makes History; Sacred Heart Drops Sunday Setback To Siena
LOUDONVILLE, NY – After leading through the first 21 minutes of play, the Sacred Heart (4-6) women’s basketball team surrendered their control in the third quarter but quickly regained their advantage and held on to it for the early moments of the fourth. In the final window, Siena (5-5) embraced an 8-3 run to put them back in front and went up by as many as seven before settling on a 62-57 final for its win at the Alumni Recreation Center Sunday afternoon.

NEW YORK, NY – Junior guard Erin Storck has been named Honorable Mention for the week by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association in women’s division I as announced by the committee Tuesday afternoon. The designations, for games played December 4-10, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.

Haines and Leatherwood Net 20-Plus; Pioneers Fall in a Heartbreaker to Hofstra
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Despite trailing by as many as eight on the brinks of the fourth quarter’s clutch period, the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team (2-4) rallied back to force overtime, Thursday evening at the Pitt Center. At the conclusion of the first period, both the visiting Hofstra Pride (4-3) and the Pioneers played to a draw before another five minutes of action resumed. In the final session, a flawed Pioneers’ defense in waning time would help the Pride turn the tide as the foe converted an old-fashioned three resulting in a lead the hosts would fail to combat.

Pioneers Collect Their First Win of the Season Rallying Past Manhattan, 65-61
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart women’s basketball team gutted out a 65-61 win over the visiting Manhattan Jaspers, Wednesday evening inside of the William H. Pitt Center. Both teams traded six-point leads as the Pioneers credited their advantage in the third and the Jaspers saw their cushion come to fruition in the fourth. However, the Pioneers remained relentless registering a 7-2 run to deadlock play at 61-61 apiece. With just 70 ticks pictured on the clock, Sacred Heart eliminated any more scoring of the visitors while tacking on four more of its own to settle the final.

Pioneers Take On St. Johns In Opening Round Of WNIT
The Sacred Heart women’s basketball team have earned back-to-back bids to the WNIT tournament, as look to take down a familiar foe, in St. Johns. The Pioneers rounded up the season placing second in the regular season, and falling in the NEC semi finals to Bryant. The Red Storm of St. Johns finished fourth in the Big East with a 20-11 record, and 11-7 among conference opponents. This will mark the 10th consecutive year and the 12th time in the last 13 seasons, the Red Storm will make an appearance in the post season.

Fairfield, CT. – The Sacred Heart women’s basketball team hosted the Bulldogs of Bryant in the NEC Semi-Finals, as Bryant picked up a 75-68 upset over the Pioneers. SHU was led by senior Adaysha Williams who put up a career high 26 points. The Pioneers finished the season 17-14 (13-5).

The Sacred Heart women’s basketball team brought their “A” game to their opening round of the NEC tournament, as they took down St. Francis Brooklyn 90-69. Sophomore Katherine Haines, earned NEC Player of the Week for the second time this season, after leading Sacred Heart to a 2-0 weekend. STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (January 9, 2017)— The Sacred Heart Pioneers moved to 6-9, and 3-1 in the NEC as they took down the Seahawks of Wagner after a big second half. SHU’s Kelcey Castro (Fairlawn, N.J.) set a new season high posting 16 points and leading the Pioneers. Hannah Kimmel (Harpursville, N.Y.) ended the night with 12 points and just shy of a double-double with nine rebounds. Also posting her fourth straight double-digit game was Katherine Haines (Ridgefield, N.J.) who tallied 12 points.

The senior drained seven shots from downtown to help lead the Pioneers to a 69-59 win over Robert Morris. Katherine Haines (Ridgefield, N.J.) registered her first career double-double as she grabbed 14 rebounds, and 12 points.

Sharp shooting led the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team to their third straight win Saturday evening. The Pioneers shot a season high 47.6% to beat Mount St. Mary’s 84-78 in the Knott Area. Gabrielle Washington (Mesa, Ariz.) led the game with 28 points, as Hannah Kimmel (Harpursville, N.Y.) recorded her first career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. With the win, SHU improves to 6-8 on the season and continue to be undefeated in Northeast Conference play.

Katie Shepard (Lone Tree, Colo.) posted a career-high 16 points as the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team fell to Rutgers 71-51 in the RAC Sunday afternoon. Junior guard Shepard led the Pioneers offensively shooting 55.6% (5-for-9) from the floor and 57.1% (4-for-7) from beyond the arc. The loss drops SHU to 2-7 on the season, and marks the first time the Pioneers have dropped five straight games since the 2008-09 season.

The NCAA announced their Public Recognition Awards this week with eight Sacred Heart athletic programs being recognized for their academic achievements. The men’s indoor and outdoor track & field teams, men’s volleyball, women’s basketball, women’s cross country, women’s ice hockey, women’s golf and women’s bowling were recognized for scoring in the top 10 percent in each sport with respect to their Academic Progress Rates (APRs). Top-performing teams this year posted APR scores ranging from 978 to a perfect 1,000.

Wednesday night the No. 2 Sacred Heart Women’s Basketball Team hosts the No. 4 Saint Francis U Red Flash in the semifinal round of the 2013 Northeast Conference Tournament presented by Ruby Tuesday’s. In the first round, the Pioneers dominated St. Francis Brooklyn with stiffling defense, as they posted 20 steals and forced the Terriers to turn the ball over 32 times. The Red Flash squeezed out a 66-63 over No. 5 Central Connecticut state in the final minutes of the game.

Blair Koniszewski (Vienna, Va.) led the Pioneers with 23 points, while Gabrielle Washington put 16 on the scoreboard, but it wasn’t enough as sloppy play plagued the Sacred Heart Women’s Basketball Team in the second half of the 73-68 loss to LIU Brooklyn Monday night in the Wellness Recreation and Athletics Center in the regular season finale. The Pioneers finish the regular season 21-9 overall and 13-5 against NEC opponents.

The Pioneers were fueled by a 25-8 run in the first half while sophomore Gabrielle Washington (Mesa, Ariz.) led the way with 20 points, her eleventh 20-plus performance of the season. After losing last night to Georgetown, the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team is slotted to play Sam Houston State at Liberty College in Lynchburgh, Va. on Friday, November 16. (Oct. 23, 2012)—The Northeast Conference announced that the defending NEC Champion Sacred Heart Women’s Basketball Team was picked to finish second in the 2012-13 Preseason Coaches’ Poll at Media Day at the Barclays Center Tuesday morning.
