The 2010-11 Sacred Heart women's basketball schedule will be highlighted with a match-up with the seven-time National Champion UConn Huskies on December 5th. The Huskies will enter next season on a 78-game winning streak after posting consecutive undefeated seasons.
The Pioneers have faced the Huskies just once before during the 2006-07 season, an 82-40 UConn win in Hartford. The site for the December 5th match-up has yet to be determined. The Huskies will once again be led by All-American Maya Moore who enters her senior season next fall.
Sacred Heart brings back four starters from this year's 19-11 squad led by seniors Alisa Apo (Freehold, NJ) and Maggie Cosgrove (Andover, MA), junior Callan Taylor (Overland Park, KS) and sophomore Kiley Evans (Cazenovia, NY). Apo and Taylor are both coming off All-Northeast Conference honors in 2009-10 while Evans earned a spot on the All-NEC Rookie Team.
Apo averaged 16.5 points per game with 153 assists and 52 steals in earning All-NEC first team honors. Taylor earned a spot on the All-NEC second team after averaging 14.6 points and 9.4 rebounds per game while leading the league with 16 double doubles. Evans averaged 11.3 points and 5.0 rebounds while earning four NEC Rookie of the Week awards during the season. Cosgrove set a new Sacred Heart school record with 76 three-point field goals this season, shooting 45.5% (76-167) on the year.
