Sacred Heart University graduate and women's basketball standout Kaitlin Sowinski is one of six players invited to participate in the Connecticut Sun training camp as she attempts to become the first Pioneer to make a WNBA roster. The Connecticut Sun announced the signing of Sowinski to a training camp contract as they open their eighth training camp on Monday at Connecticut College.
Sowinski was a member of the Sacred Heart 2006 and 2009 Northeast Conference Championship teams and led the Pioneers to a 92-34 record during her four year career, the best four-year stretch in school history. After graduating last spring, she moved on to play professionally for one season for CAB Madeira of Portugal.
The 6-4 center was a two-time All-Northeast Conference for the Pioneers and was named the 2009 NEC Tournament MVP after leading the Pioneers on a school-record 21-game winning streak that included a perfect 18-0 run through the NEC. She ranks third all-time in scoring at Sacred Heart, collecting 1,541 points and is the the program record holder for blocks in a game (9 - vs. Mount St. Mary's 2/19/07), season (101) and career (326). She ranks sixth all-time in rebounds with 768.
The Connecticut Sun will open the regular season on May 15th at 3:30 p.m., when they host the Chicago Sky.
