April 29, 2010
The Sacred Heart women's basketball team participated in a pair of community service projects during the month of April and has also been awarded the "Outstanding Service in the Community Award - Most Committed Team" by the University's Office of Volunteer Programs. The Pioneers participated in the Bridgeport Sweep on April 17th and the Travelers MS Walk with several other SHU student-athletes on April 18th.
Organized by the SHU Office of Volunteer Programs, the Bridgeport Sweep saw the Pioneers head out to city schools and parks to help with landscaping. Members of the team mulched, weeded, planted and help with landscapeing design at several schools and parks throughout Bridgeport.
The 2010 Travelers MS WALK was held at Sherwood Island in Wesport with members of the team volunteering to help run this year's event. The team served as photographers for the event, taking pictures of participants for the actual MS Society to post on their website.
The 2010 Travelers Walk MS, presented by Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, attracted more than 9,000 participants statewide at 10 locations and the chapter hopes to raise $1.22 million by the fundraising deadline on Friday, May 21. for more information please visit NationalMSSociety.org
