Nicole Trudell (Conventry, RI) paced the SHU women's bowling team with a 221.6 average last weekend to pick up her first NEC rookie of the award. Trudell's average led all freshman, and ranked third overall, at the first Northeast Conference meet of the 2010-11 campaign. The first-year Pioneer propelled the defending NEC champions to a 6-3 record during the first of three regular season meets. Over the course of the weekend, Trudell threw 58 strikes in 101 attempts (.580) and filled 89.0 percent of frames bowled.
The Rhode Island native started slow, bowling a combined 360 over her first two games, before shooting up the individual leader board. After opening with two sub-200 games, her lone two of the weekend, she totaled at least 207 pins in each of SHU's last seven matches. She nearly carried the Pioneers to victory by logging a 264 game in an eight-pin setback to St. Francis (NY). Trudell spearheaded Sacred Heart's back-to-back 1,000-plus efforts. The rookie righty turned in a 243 game in a 1094-874 win over Monmouth followed by a high game of 268 in a 1037-974 defeat of Adelphi.
The SHU women's bowling team returns to action in another tournament loaded with nationally ranked teams this weekend at the University of Maryland - Eastern Shore Classic in Millsboro, DE.
