The SHU bowling team has been ranked third in the latest NTCA National Poll and received four first-place votes, marking the first time in program history the Pioneers have received a first-place nod. The Pioneers are tied for the highest winning percentage in the country with a record of 37-9 (.804). Sacred Heart also currently sits atop the Northeast Conference standings with an 8-1 mark in league play.
SHU has racked up numerous big victories already in 2011-12, including three triumphs over defending national champion and current #4 Maryland-Eastern Shore. The Pioneers have proved they can compete with any team in the nation as a roll-off was needed to decide a winner in a clash with now #1 Valparaiso. Just one of SHU's losses came to a team now ranked below sixth as Sacred Heart boasts a 20-9 record against squads in the NTCA top-20.
The Pioneers are now in prime position to return to the NCAA Tournament after narrowly missing the eight team field in each of the last two seasons. Sacred Heart returns to the lanes after the holiday break, January 20, at the Frederick E. Underwood Lady Bulldog Classic.
