Fairfield, Conn.—The 2012 Northeast Conference Champion Sacred Heart Women's Bowling Team has been picked to finish on top the conference in the 2012-13 Preseason Coach's Poll. Edging out perennial favorite Fairleigh Dickinson, who received four first place nods, SHU garnered six first place votes. The Pioneers begin defending their title this weekend at Bowl-O-Rama in Reading, Penn. for the first NEC match of the season.

Sacred Heart should be a force to be reckoned with, returning First Team All-American and 2013 Junior Team USA member Jackie Carbonetto (Blauvelt, N.Y.),  2011 National Rookie of the Year Nicole Trudell (Coventry, R.I.) and 2012 NEC Tournament MVP Jacqueline Willy (Clarence, N.Y.).

"I am very excited about this season," said Head Coach Becky Kregling. "We have one of our most experienced teams as well as one of the youngest."

While the Pioneers return many key players, six of eight from last year's NCAA Tournament roster, Kregling has brought the largest freshman class in the program's twenty-year history. Sacred Heart bowling has nine fresh faces from throughout the Northeast.

Rookie Corinne Maher (Brick Township, N.J.), the 2012 South Jersey Bowler of the Year and First Team All-Shore, has earned a spot on the first semester's travel roster. Maher leads the team with a high average of 215. Right behind Maher in that category is Kristina Freitag (East Islip, N.Y.) with a high average of 213.

Abby Rossi (Great Barrington, Mass.), the only lefthander in the class, and Mikaela Marbot (Buskirk, N.Y.) also have high averages above 200, averaging 203 and 202 respectively.

Nicole Higgins (Old Bridge, N.J.) was a member of the Blue Division All-Star Team all four years of high school, and an integral part of the Girls Varsity Bowling-NJSIAA Group I State Champions in 2012. Allison DeStasio (Lewes, Del.) captained her youth team three consecutive years.

Brittany Reid (Enfield, Conn.), Jayna Tartaglia (Rye Brook, N.Y.) and Katelyn Wilson (Dighton, Mass.) round out the women's bowling class of 2016.
