Fairfield, CT (November 25,2013) – Sacred Heart University Head Fencing Coach Dr. Thomas Vrabel has announced the signing of Caitlin Stanton to a National Letter of Intent to fence epee for the Pioneers next season. Stanton is from Alpharetta, Ga. where she is the team captain of the Alpharetta High School fencing team.
"We are very excited to have Caitlin joining our epee squad next season", comments Dr. Vrabel. "Caitlin is a very tough competitor who does extremely well under pressure".
Stanton is a four year letter winner for the Alpharetta Raiders and she is currently the all-time points leader in Georgia High School Fencing League history. She currently has a 50-1 record in League competition this season and sports an overall record of 236-13 in four years of competition. Stanton's amazing performance has earned her two MVP awards (2012 and 2013) for the Alpharetta HS Team. In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Caitlin is a three year USFA Academic All American.
Stanton has a C 13 USFA rating. Among her national level USFA accomplishments are a 3rd place finish at the Division III NAC in Reno last season and a 9th place finish in the Division II National Championship in Columbus, OH last July. Caitlin recently placed 5th at the New Orleans ROC where she qualified for the Division 1A National Championship next July.
"Caitlin will be bringing a new dimension to our epee squad next year", said Vrabel. "We have been known for having a tall and powerful epee squad for several seasons. Stanton is very quick with a surprisingly long lunge for a five foot tall epeeist. She is an extremely effective infighter and has an uncanny ability to make excellent decisions very quickly and decisively. Her will to win and focus on the fencing strip are among the best that I have seen on the Pioneer team. I look for Caitlin to have an immediate impact on our epee squad next season."
