Women’s Fencing Opens NFC Play With 5-1 Record Saturday

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Sacred Heart women's fencing team opened Northeast Fencing Conference competition Saturday at MIT, going 5-1.

Three of the Pioneers' six matches were decided by one bout. SHU came out on the right end of 14-13 scores against the host MIT and Brandeis, but fell to Boston College 14-13. The Pioneers also posted a 16-11 win over Brown, 23-4 over New Hampshire, and 19-8 over Wellesley.

Julia Greene was 17-1 on the day in sabre with Mackenna Lamphere going 15-3 and Hasoni Austin 13-5. Bailey Partridge led the foil squad with a 15-3 record. Samantha Abbott was 13-5 in epee.

Sacred Heart hosts the Tradition Tournament on Sunday, Dec. 4 at the Pitt Center.
