(Fairfield, CT) - For more than 60 minutes, Sacred Heart and Monmouth battled to a scoreless tie until Kimmy Baligian finally solved Pioneer goalkeeper Kim Stow (Norwalk, CT). Baligian scored at the 60:16 mark to propel the Hawks to a 1-0 win over the Pioneer field hockey team Friday afternoon at Campus Field.
Baligian took a pass from Melissa Muphy from the left side of the circle and quickly got the shot off for the game's lone goal. Stow once again played solid in goal, making nine saves. She came into the game leading the Northeast Conference with an average of ten saves per game.
Monmouth remains the top team in the NEC, improving to 10-3. Sacred Heart is next in action Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., when the Pioneers close out a four-game home stand by hosting second-place Rider.
