Pioneers Beat Bulldogs on the Road 3-2

(Smithfield, RI) – The Sacred Heart Pioneers held on to beat the Bryant Bulldogs 3-2 Friday night on the road.

After Emily Charpentier opened the scoring at 11:16 for Bryant, the Pioneers reeled off three unanswered goals to close out the first half.  Lindsay Kasten (Fair Haven, NJ) tied it for the Pioneers at 19:33 off a centering pass from Sarah BergmanAlex Melillo gave SHU the lead at 26:28 on a goal off a penalty corner, set up by Nikki Kimborowicz (Biddeford, ME) and Kim Pobutkiewicz (West Long Branch, NJ).   Kimborowicz made it 3-1 at 33:39, scoring off another penalty corner set up by Pobutkiewicz and Hannah Robinson (Watertown, MA).

Rosie Bird cut the SHU lead to one with a goal at 53:42, but Kim Stow (Norwalk, CT) made that lead stand up with a ten-save effort.

The Pioneers host Sienna on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 3:00 p.m. on Senior Day in SHU's last home game of the season.
