SHU Field Hockey Announces 2013 Recruiting Class

FAIRFIELD, CT (March 18, 2013) - Sacred Heart head field hockey coach Katie Kloeckener announced her incoming freshman class for the upcoming 2013 season.  The Sacred Heart Class of 2017 has 12 incoming student-athletes ready to become Pioneers this coming fall.

"We are very excited to welcome these twelve young women and their families into our Pioneer Field Hockey family," stated Kloeckener.  "All of them bring a lot of potential and exciting energy that will help propel our program forward in the coming years."

Danielle Baur

Danielle Baur, Forward, Escondido, CA / San Pasqual High School - Baur was a team captain in 2012 for San Pasqual High School, leading her team to the CIF Championship in 2012.  Her team won the Avocado League Championship for the third-straight season (2010-2012) last fall and as a sophomore and junior, she helped her team advance to the CIF Semifinals in 2010 and 2011.  She was named to the 2012 High School Sports Association's All-Star Field Hockey Team and was an All-Avocado League first team pick in 2011 and 2012.

Coach Kloeckener on Baur: "Danielle is coming the furthest to join our Pioneer Family. We're very excited for Danielle to bring her tenacious style of play to our attack."

Sydney Duven

Sydney Duven, Defense, Freehold, NJ / Freehold Boro High School - Duven was named a team captain as a senior and four-year starter at Freehold Boro High School.  She led her teams to the 2010 and 2011 New Jersey Field Hockey State Championships.  She was an All-Division pick as a sophomore through senior and earned third team All-Shore selection as a senior.

Coach Kloeckener on Duven: "Sydney is the younger sister of former player Karly Duven. However, Sydney will bring a completely different style of play than her sister, which includes great experience and stability in our backfield."

Caroline Moore

 Caroline Moore, Goalkeeper, State College, PA / State College Area High School - Moore helped lead the State College Area High School to the PIAA State Playoffs this past fall.  She was a Mid-Penn All-Star All-Conference in 2012.  She was selected to play in the 2012 Mid-Penn All Star Game.

Coach Kloeckener on Moore: "Caroline brings a lot of enthusiasm to the goalkeeping position and will be a great compliment to Mary Altepeter, our returning goalkeeper."

Jackie Delannoy

 Jackie Delannoy, Defense, New Egypt, NJ / New Egypt High School - Delannoy was named a team captain for New Egypt High School this past fall.  She was named to the All-Burlington County first team after leading her team to a Patriot Division Championship.  She also led her team to the dividion title in 2011 and the Freedom Division Championship in 2010.

Coach Kloeckener on Delannoy: "Jackie comes to us from a very strong club team, and we will look for her to develop into a strong force in our backfield."

Kristin Aveni

 Kristin Aveni, Forward/Midfield, Westminster, MA / Oakmont High School - Aveni served as a team captain at Oakmont High School.  She led her team to the State Finals in each of her four seasons in a uniform (2009 - 2012).  She was named to the Central Mass All-Star team in 2011 and 2012 and elected to the Sentinel & Enterprise All-Star teams in 2011 and 2012.  She played in the state All-Star game as a junior and season.

Coach Kloeckener on Aveni: "Kristin is a very competitive player. She is going to give you 110% on every play and will put her body on the line to score a goal."

Kristen Conroy

 Kristen Conroy, Midfield, Yorktown Heights, NY / Lakeland High School - Conroy played at Lakeland High School where she was elected a team captain in 2012.  She led her team to the 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 Section, Region and New York State Championship.  A four-year member of the varisty squad, Conroy was named All-League in 2011 and 2012.  She was also an All-Elite Honorable Mention as a junior and senior.  She was the winner of the Sportsmanship Award in the 2012 NY State Championships.

Coach Kloeckener on Conroy: "Kristen hails from arguably the strongest high school program in the state of New York. We will look for her bring her winning mentality and consistent play to positively impact our program."

Nicole Granito

 Nicole Granito, Forward/Midfield, Matawan, NJ / St. John Vianney High School - Granito was named a team captain in 2012 at St. John Vianney.  She was named to the A-Central All-Division teasm and elected to the Asbury Park Press Third Team All-Shore.  Granito was also a second team Star Ledger All-Monmouth County pick as a senior.

Coach Kloeckener on Granito: "Nicole brings a ton of energy to our attack. We will look for her to bring that energy to the field every day." 

Kristin Kujan

 Kristin Kujan, Forward, Port Washington, NY / Paul D. Schreiber High School - Kujan was a team captain as a senior for Paul D. Schreiber High School where she led her team to the 2012 League II High School Championship.  She helped her team advance to the 2011 and 2012 Nassau County Finals.  Kujan was an All-Conference pick in 2010 and 2011.

Coach Kloeckener on Kujan: "Kristin uses a lot of speed in her game, and we will look for her to bring that to our attack."

Lauren Harrison

 Lauren Harrison, Midfield/Defense, Oxford, MD / Easton High School - Harrison played field hockey at Easton High School where she was named a team captain in 2012.  She won the Marty Milbrada Award.  Named to the All-State second team as a senior.  She helped lead her team tot he 2009 2A East Regional Championship and the 2010 Bayside Championship.  Harrison was chosen to play in the 2010 Senior All-Star Game.

Coach Kloeckener on Harrison: "Lauren is a strong athlete with unlimited potential. We look forward to tapping into her potential as soon as she arrives on campus."

Danielle Gallagher

 Danielle Gallagher, Forward/Midfield, Clayton, DE / St. Thomas More Academy - Gallagher attended St. Thomas More Academy and was a team captain last fall.  She was a three-time All-Conference selection, earning the honor her sophomore through senior seasons.  She was named a 2012 All-State player and earned a spot to play in the 2012 Delaware Senior All-Star Game.

Coach Kloeckener on Gallagher: "Danielle never gives up on a single play. She brings a great energy to our program."

Melanie Rudio

 Melanie Rudio, Midfield, Newton, NJ / Newton High School - Rudio was a 2012 team captain at Newton High School.  A four-year varsity starter, she was named to the NJ Herald First team in 2012.  She was named to the 2010 and 2011 Mugs Media All-Star team.  In 2011, she ws a NJAC first team pick and an All-Area pick.  She was named to the NJAC second team as a freshman and an All-State Northwest Jersey honorable mention.  As a sophomore in 2010, she was named All-Area second team.  She was a 2010 and 2011 NJAC first teamer.

Coach Kloeckener on Rudio: "Melanie is a excellent athlete, who we will look to have a great impact on our midfield line."

Caitlyn Slusser

 Caitlyn Slusser, Defense, Milford, NJ / Delaware Valley Regional High School - Slusser named a team captain for Delaware Valley Regional High School.  She was named her team's MVP in 2012 after garnering All-Conference honors.  Slusser was also a first team All-County pick and a second team All-Area selection as a senior.  She was chosen to play in the North Jersey Senior All-Star Game.

Coach Kloeckener on Slusser: "Caitlyn is a solid defender, and we will look for her to add more depth to our backfield."
