SHU Field Hockey Shut Out at Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (October 25, 2013)—The Sacred Heart field hockey team was shutout 5-0 Friday evening by the Monmouth Hawks on So Sweet A Cat Field. The Pioneers drop to 4-10 with the loss and still remain on the hunt for their first MAAC win.

The Hawks got on the board 8:30 into the game with Alex Carroll's penalty stroke, their first of three goals in the half. SHU was able to hold a dominant Monmouth team for over 10 minutes, but in the 19th minute Trish O'Dwyer passed the ball in front of the net for Hannah Loux to knock in. Loux added one more before the end of the half to put the Hawks up 3-0 at halftime.

Just under three minutes into the second half, Monmouth struck againwith Carroll tapping in a pass from the corner. After tallying two assists in the game, O'Dwyer notched her first goal and the final of the game in the 64th minute.

SHU goalkeeper Mary Altepeter (Chesterfield, Mo.) recorded five saves in the game, while Jen O'Malley (Boston, Mass.), Christine Mace (Norwalk, Conn.) and Danielle Gallagher (Clayton, Del.) each posted a shot on goal.

The Pioneers continue their New Jersey MAAC road trip Sunday when they take on the defending champion Rider Broncs.
