FAIRFIELD, CONN. (June 17, 2014)—Sacred Heart Field Hockey Head Coach Katie Kloeckener announced the Pioneers' 2014 schedule Tuesday. SHU hopes to rebound from last year's 4-13 season when it hosts Villanova in the season opener on August 29 at 7:00 p.m. on Campus Field.
The Wildcats are just the beginning of a tough non-conference slate, which features contests against Yale and Lock Haven, who finished 2013 ranked 31st and 32nd in the country respectively, as well as Maine and Rutgers.
"Our non-conference slate has a few new opponents this year, from the Big 10 and America East Conferences, which will hopefully better prepare us for our MAAC schedule," said Kloeckener.
The Pioneers open conference play Sunday, October 12 when the Bryant Bulldogs, who finished third in the MAAC in 2013, come to town for a 3:00 p.m. game. That is just the first of three consecutive home Sunday games for SHU. The following week they take on Monmouth before battling the perennial powerhouse Rider on Campus Field in their final home game of the regular season on October 26.
Sacred Heart heads down the Merritt Parkway to Hamden, Conn. to round out the regular season against the reigning MAAC Champions Quinnipiac Bobcats on Halloween.
