Field Hockey Falls to Hofstra, 2-1, in Penalty Strokes

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University field hockey team suffered its second loss in a row as the Pioneers fell to Hofstra, 2-1 in penalty strokes, Tuesday afternoon at Johnson Field. Makenna Crawford scored the Pios lone goal in the loss.

The Pioneers return to action on Sunday, September 23, when SHU takes on Yale at 1 p.m. at Johnson Field.

The Scoring

  • (7:07): Marlena Koellner sent the ball into the circle for Makenna Crawford, who shot it past the keeper to give SHU a 1-0 lead

  • (46:41): Cami Larsson took a shot on goal, but Madison Georgiana redirected the shot and scored the goal

  • (100:00): After seven rounds of penalty shots, Madison Suave converted one to secure the Hofstra win

Noteworthy

  • Crawford's goal was her second of the season

  • Koellner's assist was her first of the season

  • The assist also gave Koellner her first point of the season.

  • Hailey Power made 11 saves in the loss
