PROVIDENCE, RI (September 23, 2009) – The Sacred Heart University field hockey team lost a non-conference game at Brown University, 3-2, Wednesday afternoon. The loss dropped the Pioneers to 1-8 overall, while the Bears improved to 3-3 on the season.
Brown took a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half. Freshman forward Lindsay Kasten (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) got Sacred Heart on the board for the first time in three games off an assist from junior midfielder Dana Luhrs (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley).
Trailing 3-1 junior forward Stephanie Fazio (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahon) cut the Bears lead one in the final minute on an unassisted goal.
The Brown offense was powered by a pair of goals and an assist from freshman back Elara Mosquera. Senior back Michaela Seigo also contributed a goal.
In the cage for the Pioneers, junior Kim Stow (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) made 11 saves. Sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Washburn made three stops for the Bears.
Sacred Heart returns to action Sunday at 2:00 at Rutgers.
