14 Pioneers Earn 2009 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Academic Honors

FAIRFIELD, CT – Fourteen student-athletes from the Sacred Heart University field hockey team were named to the 2009 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Squad.  As a team the Pioneers were also recognized by the NFHCA for maintaining a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher.


Seniors Whitney Russo (Waterville, ME) and Kelsey Zeyher (Poughkeepsie, NY) were each named to their fourth NFHCA All-Academic Squad.  Joining them on the list of award winners are juniors Stephanie Fazio (Norwalk, CT), Jessica Garcia (Freehold, NJ), Dana Luhrs (Milford, PA), Hannah Robinson (Watertown, MA), and Kim Stow (Norwalk, CT).


Sophomores Kate Boyd (Nottingham, NH), Chelsea Carlson (Peterborough, NH), Melissa Hancock (Mercer, ME), Katie Mazin (Putnam Valley, NY), and Alex Melillo (Southbury, CT) along with freshmen Lindsay Kasten (Fair Haven, NJ) and Kim Pobutkiewicz (West Long Beach, NJ) were also named to the squad.
