MILFORD, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University women's golf team hosts its annual Sacred Heart Fall Classic at the Great River Golf Course this Sunday and Monday.
Including Sacred Heart, the field for the classic features 10 teams. Northeast Conference rivals Central Connecticut, Long Island and Monmouth will participate as well as in-state opponents Hartford and Yale. Rounding out the field are Boston University, Brown, Holy Cross, and St. John's.
The Pioneers have had a lot of success over the past few weeks including a win at the ECAC Championship at the Twisted Dune Golf Club in Egg Harbor, N.J. on October 3 and 4. Last week, sophomore Gabriella Riber (Stockholm, Sweden) won the individual medal at the Rutgers Invitational.
For her efforts, Riber was named the Northeast Conference Golfer of the week after winning the Rutgers Invite with a two-day total of 155 (79-76). Two weeks earlier, junior Carly Bergin (Binghamton, N.Y.) also earned the NEC Golfer of the Week award after finishing in a tie for third as she led SHU to victory at the ECACs.
