WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University women's golf team registered its third win of the year and second of the Spring with a first place finish, out of five, at the Hartford Women's Golf Invitational.
The Pioneers posted a two-day team score of 636 to earn the win. Fairfield finished in second at 648, while the host Hawks took third with a score of 668.
Junior Carly Bergin (Binghamton, N.Y.) shot a 78 in round two, after posting the same score in Monday's first round, to take second place individually at the par-72, 5,801-yard Rockledge Golf Course. Sophomore Gabriella Riber (Stockholm, Sweden), who held the lead along with Bergin after round one, finished in a tie for fourth at 159 after shooting an 81.
Also scoring for SHU was junior Michelle Riber (Stockholm, Sweden) and freshman Jennifer Clinton (Sayville, N.Y.). Riber landed in sixth with a pair of 80s, while Clinton totaled 161 (79-82) to finish in a tie for seventh.
Junior Brianna Carnahan (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) also competed for the Pioneers and booked a 162 (80-82).
Sacred Heart next hits the links for its final tune-up leading up to the Northeast Conference Championship as is competes in the Columbia Invitational on April 15 and 16.
