MILFORD, CT (October 24, 2011) - The Sacred Heart women's golf team took home the team title at the 2011 SHU Fall Classic, topping an eight team field by 12 strokes at the Great River Golf Course. The Pioneers cap off a strong fall season where they won their own annual event and finished second at the ECAC Championship.
The Pioneers posted a two-round score of 661 on the par 72, 6,148 yard course. The Long Island Blacbirds finished second with a score of 673. Monmouth was third (683) followed by Boston University (686), Hartford (697), Central Connecticut (711), Quinnipiac (770) and Holy Cross (785).
SHU senior Michelle Riber (Stockholm, Sweden) was the Pioneers top-finisher with a fourth place finish. Riber posted a 36-hole total of 161, six strokes off the lead. Junior Gabriella Riber (Stockholm, Sweden), sophomore Jennifer Clinton (Sayville, NY) and senior Carly Bergin (Binghamton, NY) rounded out the Pioneer top-four.
Riber was eighth overall with a score of 166. Clinton and Bergin were tied for ninth overall, both carding scores of 167. Junior Claire McGovern (Escondido, CA) finished 17th overall shooting, 175 over the two rounds.
Kristyna Paulickova of Boston University was the individual medalist with a score of 155, shooting the low round on Monday with a 76. LIU's Anna Palsson was second one stroke back at 156, shooting a low round 74 on Sunday. BU's Flor Canedo was third with a 157.
