SHU Women Picked to Win their First NEC Championship
The Sacred Heart women's golf team was picked to win the Northeast Conference title this year in the 2012 NEC Coach's Poll. The Pioneers received eight first place votes as they try to capture their first ever NEC championship. Head Coach Matt McGreevey has an extremely deep roster coming into the spring including two All-Conference honorees.
Gabriella Riber (Stockholm, Sweden) landed a spot on the first team as a sophomore after she finished in a tie for fourth (78-81-83 = 232) at the Conference championship. The native of Sweden also collected two NEC Golfer of the Week nods during the regular season, while averaging 78.64. Carly Bergin (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) was named to the NEC second team last season. The New York product produced a trio of top-three finishes and two NEC Golfer of the Week selections. This past fall, Bergin garnered NEC Player of the Month honors in October after winning the individual title at the ECAC Championship with a 36-hole score of 148.
The Pioneers look to bring home their first ever NEC championship, opening the spring season at the Lonnie Barton Invitational in Savannah, Georgia on March 5th.
