SHU in Third After First Round of NEC Championships

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - The Sacred Heart women's golf team is five strokes off the lead in third place after the opening round of the 2012 Northeast Conference Championship Friday in Daytona Beach, FL.  The four-time defending champion Fairleigh Dickinson Knights got off to a fast start and lead after 18-holes at the LPGA International Champions Course.

The Knights shot a day one score of 305 (+17) to lead LIU Brooklyn in second who finished with a 308 (+20) and SHU in third who put together a score of 310 (+22).  The Pioneers have three golfers in the top-10 on the leader board at the par 72, 6,030 yard course.

Senior Carly Bergin (Binghamton, NY) is tied for third after carding a opening round score of 75.  Senior Brianna Carnahan (Port Jefferson, NJ) and junior Gabriella Riber (Stockholm, Sweden) are tied for ninth after shooting matching 78's. 

Senior Michelle Riber (Stockholm, Sweden) finished just a stroke back with a 79 and sits tied for 14th heading into the second round.

LIU's Cristina Felip and FDU's Esther Park carded 73's over their first 18-holes of play to sit tied for the lead.

Play will continue on Saturday and Sunday.
