HANOVER, N.H. – The Sacred Heart women's golf team opened its 2013 fall season with a seventh-place finish at the Dartmouth Women's Invitational, which wrapped up on Sunday at Hanover Country Club.
Senior Jennifer Clinton (Sayville, N.Y.) was the Pioneers' top finisher over the weekend, wrapping up the tournament in a tie for 20th after rounds of 78 and 79 on the par-72 course. Freshman Ellen Nighbor (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) was Sacred Heart's low scorer on Saturday with a four-over 76. On Sunday, she carded an 85 to finish the tournament tied for 29th. Stephanie Lowe (Cedar Park, Texas) matched Clinton with a 79 on Sunday, four shots better than her round on Saturday to finish tied for 31st. Kelsey Hayward (Seekonk, Mass.) also shot 79 on Sunday, improving upon her first round by six strokes to wrap up the tournament tied for 36th.
As a team, Sacred Heart was consistent. The Pioneers had team scores of 322 in both rounds, finishing 10 strokes behind sixth place Quinnipiac. Yale won the team title, followed by Boston University, Dartmouth, Brown, and Siena.
Sacred Heart is back in action on Friday, September 20 for the first round of the Yale Women's Intercollegiate in New Haven.
