Kelsey Hayward Leads Lonnie Barton Invitational After Opening Round

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Junior Kelsey Hayward (Seekonk, Mass.) shot a one-over 73 to take the individual lead after the opening round of the Lonnie Barton Invitational Monday at the LPGA International Champions Course.

Hayward leads the individual competition by two strokes over Fairleigh Dickinson's Mariana Juaristi and Saint Francis U's Erica DeVal. The Sacred Heart women's golf team put three golfers in the top-10 after Monday's first round of competition. Freshman Ellen Nighbor (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) carded a six-over 78 to put herself tied for seventh. Jennifer Clinton (Sayville, N.Y.) finished the first round 10th with a 79. Stephanie Lowe  (Cedar Park, Texas)rounded out the Pioneers' scoring group with an 87 that put her 27th individually.

The Pioneers are second in the team competition, as their team score of 317 put them eight shots behind first place Fairleigh Dickinson. Sacred Heart is three strokes clear of Saint Francis U and Robert Morris after the first round of play.

The final round will take place on Tuesday.
