WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Sacred Heart women's golf team finished the first day of competition in the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate at The River Course at Kingsmill Resort Sunday tied for seventh. The Pioneers played 36 holes due to impending bad weather on Monday.
Senior Jennifer Clinton (Sayville, N.Y.) finished Sunday tied for 12th on the individual leaderboard. Clinton had the Pioneers' lowest round of the day with a 78 on the par-72 course in the first round. She followed that up with an 81 in the second round for a two-round score of 159. Stephanie Lowe (Cedar Park, Texas) cut three strokes from her opening round of 83 with a second round 80, putting her tied for 22nd with a score of 163.
Kelsey Hayward (Seekonk, Mass.), who won the individual title at the Lonnie Barton Invitational last week, bounced back from an opening round 87 with a 79 in the second round to put herself in a tie for 33rd place. Ellen Nighbor (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) rounded out the Sacred Heart scoring group with a two-round score of 168, putting her tied for 41st individually.
As a team, the Pioneers improved by 10 strokes from the first round to the second with a team score of 323 in the second round. Sacred Heart wrapped up day one tied with Yale's B squad for seventh place with team scores of 656, six shots behind sixth-place Lehigh. Yale leads the team competition with a two-round score of 616, ten strokes clear of second place Longwood.
The final round of the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate will take place on Tuesday.
