Women’s Golf In Fourth Place After First Round of NEC Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Freshman Ellen Nighbor (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) finished the opening round of the Northeast Conference Women's Golf Championship  at the LPGA International Champions Course tied for fourth place on Friday, as the Sacred Heart women's golf team closed the day in fourth place.

Nighbor  had the Pioneers' low score on Friday with a three-over 75 on the par 72 course. Nighbor shot even par on the back nine to stay at +3. Stephanie Lowe (Cedar Park, Texas) bounced back from a four-over 40 on the front nine to shoot one-over on the back nine, posting a round of five-over 77 to put herself in eighth place. Jenn Clinton (Sayville, N.Y.) was four-over through the first nine holes and finished with a 10-over 82, closing the day tied for 23rd. Kelsey Hayward (Seekonk, Mass.) rounded out the Pioneers' scoring group with a 14-over 86 in 32nd place.

Sacred Heart had a team score of 320, 32-over par on Friday. The Pioneers are seven strokes behind third-place Robert Morris. LIU Brooklyn leads the team competition after a first round 299, 11 strokes over par. The Blackbirds are six shots ahead of second place Saint Francis U.

Second round play begins Saturday morning.
