Women's Golf Finish Third at Lonnie Barton Invitational To Open Spring Slate

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.— The Sacred Heart University women's golf team opened up its spring season with a third-place finish at the annual Lonnie Barton Invitational held at LPGA International.

The Pioneers fired a second-round score of 313 to finish with a two-round score of 637. NEC foe, FDU claimed the team title with a score of 618. Two strokes ahead of SHU in second was North Carolina A&T while Bethune-Cookman placed just one stroke back of the Pioneers at 638.

Senior Abigail Hood opened her spring season with a top-four finish, shooting a 77 in round one and a 76 in round two. Junior Chelsea Sedlar finished tied for tenth with a two-round score of 158. Senior Alejandra Perez shot a seven-over 77 in round two to finish at 160 to tie for 17th.

Sophomore Ana Contreras improved six strokes in round two to shoot a 166 to tie for 31st. Senior Estee Deschamps finished with a score of 192 to close out the Pioneers scoring group. Senior Lauren Pelster recorded a two-round score of 174 to tie for 45th. Junior Chrissie Wojciechowski and freshman Maya Isom recorded scores of 177 and 178 as individuals.

SHU finishes up spring break in Florida with the LadyCat Invitational at LPGA International on Thursday, March 8.
