BEALLESVILLE, MD - An impressive field and sub-par weather in the Hoya Invitational hosted by Georgetown University made things difficult for the Sacred Heart women's golf team Monday. The Pioneers finished the first round in 15th place in the 17-team field.
The SHU first-round total of 343 put them far behind tournament leader Nova University's 303. The University of Maryland and Yale are tied for second at 308, followed by Campbell at 309 and Rollins College at 314.
Sacred Heart, which sits just a stroke behind the University of Hartford, was led by freshman Claire McGovern (Escondido, CA) with an 82. Sophomore Michelle Riber (Stockholm, Sweden) was next with an 84, while younger sister Gabriella finished with an 88.
The tournament, being played at The Members Club at Four Streams, concludes tomorrow with 18 holes.
