Women's Golf Seventh After First Round at Hartford Invite

W. HARTFORD, CT - The Sacred Heart women's golf team stands in 7th place out of 11 teams after the first round of the University of Hartford Invitational Monday afternoon. The Pioneer total of 338 puts them well behind first-round leader Rutgers but just two strokes out of sixth.

The Rutgers total of 310 puts them three strokes ahead of St. John's in second and 11 ahead of Hampton in third. Fairleigh Dickinson sits in fourth at 324, followed by host Hartford in fifth at 331.

Only 11 golfers out of 61 broke 80 on the par 72 Rockledge Golf Club. Sophomore Carly Bergin (Binghamton, NY) led the Pioneers with a first-round 82. Sophomore Michelle Riber (Stockholm, Sweden) and freshman Claire McGovern (Escondido, CA) finished with a pair of 85's, while freshman Gabriella Riber (Stockholm, Sweden) had an 86.

The tournament concludes tomorrow.
