MILFORD, Conn. (October 19, 2009) - The Pioneer women's golf team shot a team score of 158 to take third place at their own Sacred Heart Fall Classic Monday at the Great River Golf Club. Heavy rains on Sunday pushed the 36-hole event to Monday as St. John's University took home the team title with a 642 (+12).
SHU sophomore Michelle Riber (Stockholm, Sweden) finished fifth overall shooting an 80 on her opening 18-holes and an 82 on the second 18 for a 162. Riber was one stroke off third place finisher Michelle Romano and finished six stroke off the lead. Hartford's Emily Linn won the individual title shooting a 156 on the par 72, 5,922 yard course.
Freshman Gabriella Riber (Stockholm, Sweden) finished 11th, shooting an 84 and an 86 over her two rounds (170). Fellow freshman Claire McGovern (Escondido, CA) finished 17th overall, shooting a 174 (87-87).
Sophomore Carly Bergin (Binghamton, NY) tied for 28th place shooting a 90 and 89.
The Pioneers will wrap up the fall portion of their schedule playing in the Fairleigh Dickinson Invitational on October 26th and 27th.
