Women’s Ice Hockey Blanked by Crusaders

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team fell to Holy Cross 5-0 at the Wonderland of Ice on Wednesday night.  The Pioneers fell to 0-5 on the year, while the Crusaders moved to 2-0.

Despite being outshot 16-6 in the first period, Sacred Heart went into the first intermission tied at zero.  Through the remaining two periods the Pioneers held a two shot advantage, but they failed to put the puck in the net.  Overall the Crusaders held a 40-32 lead in shots on goal for the game.

Junior forward Nicola Garat notched the first goal of the game 6:13 into the second period.  However, it was senior forward Jocelyn Kratchmer that propelled Holy Cross to victory with a hat trick.

In net, freshman Alexius Schutt (Elk River, Minn.) made 35 saves for the Pioneers.  Junior Carly Dominick-Sobol stopped 32 shots to earn the shutout victory for the Crusaders.

Junior defender Nicole Palazzo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) continues to be a terror for opposing goaltenders as she got eight shots on net.

Sacred Heart is back on the ice this Saturday as the Pioneers hit the road to take on Brown at 1:00 pm.
