ASTON, Pa. – Senior forward Kristina Hankins (Lexington, Mass.) netted a hat trick en route to an 8-0 victory for the Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team over Cortland State at the Neumann Holiday Tournament. For the Pioneers, it was their second straight win as they improved to 4-14-0, while the Red Dragons dropped to 1-8-2.
Hankins got the SHU offense going with the lone score of the first period, assisted by junior Jamie Mey (Middletown, R.I.) and senior Brittany Hartman (Edina, Minn.). Hankins, from Mey again, also tallied the first goal of the second period. Later in the period, Mey were score one of her own on a shorthanded opportunity.
Freshman netminder Alexius Schutt (Elk River, Minn.) earned the shutout by going the distance in goal and providing 26 stops. In net for Cortland, sophomore starter Sarah Sitcov and back-up junior Katie Double each made 13 saves.
The Pioneers held a 34-26 advantage in shots on goal.
Tomorrow Sacred Heart takes on the winner of tonight's game between Neumann and Salve Regina at 5:00 pm.
