NEW BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team dropped an 8-2 decision at Bowdoin, Sunday afternoon. Junior forward Tara Kent (Glenview, Ill.) scored both goals for the Pioneers in the loss.
Sophomore Kayte Holtz led the Polar Bear attack with a hat trick, putting her total at seven goals for the weekend. Senior Jill Campbell added a goal and two helpers, while sophomore Kim Tess-Wanat posted a goal and an assist.
Kent scored her first goal of the day in the final minute of the first period and added her second 4:11 into the final frame. Junior linemate Jamie Mey (Middletown, R.I.) assisted on both goals, while freshman defender Maura Leahy (Ashburnham, Mass.) also collected an assist on the first score.
Junior goaltender Sage Santangelo earned the win for Bowdoin by making 32 saves. For SHU, freshman Alexius Schutt (Elk River, Minn.) stopped 27 shots and gave up six goals in 50 minutes of play. In relief, junior Raelene Sydor (St. Albert, Alta.) made six saves.
Next Sunday at 2:00 pm, the Pioneers will be in action at Wesleyan as they make up a game that was postponed from January 18 due to inclement weather.
