Pioneers Beat Rhode Island for First Victory of the Season
(Kingston, RI) – The Sacred Heart University Women's Hockey team beat the University of Rhode Island 3-0 Saturday afternoon for their first win of the season.
After skating scoreless through the entire first period and much of the second period, SHU took the lead for good on a goal by Jamie Mey (Middletown, RI), set up by Lauren Towers (West Hartford, CT) at 17:29 of the second. The Pioneers added insurance in the third on a goal by Meaghan Souza (Wilmington, MA), with Catie Ladner (Chaska, MN) picking of the assist at 13:15. Brianna Connolly (Duxbury, MA) added another for good measure, with Tara Kent (Glenview, IL) and Ladner getting credit for the helpers.
Alexius Schutt (Elk River, MN) stopped all 30 Rams shots on goal for the shutout victory.
The Pioneers are next in action at Brown on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1:00 p.m.
