Women's Ice Hockey Falls to St. Anselm 5-2

(Bridgeport, CT) – The Women's Hockey team lost 5-2 to St. Anselm Saturday afternoon at the Wonderland of Ice. 

Courtney Winters opened the scoring for the Hawks on the power play at 10:45.  However, SHU fought back on a goal by Briana Connolly, assisted by Maura Leahy and Alanna Woodford at 7:57 of the second.  The teams traded goals in the second to go into the third tied.  Aly Zappens scored unassisted at 10:53 of the second, but once again SHU responded on a goal by Melissa Robins, set up by Tara Kent.

However, St. Anselm went ahead for good on a goal by Kathryn Picarello at 5:47 of the third.  They added insurance on an unassisted goal by Winters at 11:25.  They sealed the victory on an empty net goal by Tiffany Herron with 39 seconds left.

Alexius Shutt made 42 saves in net for the Pioneers, who play again next against Holy Cross next Saturday, Nov. 5 at 2:00 p.m.
