Palazzo, Mey, and Farrelly-Poulsen Return To Women's Hockey as Assistant Coaches
(Fairfield, CT) – Sacred Heart Women's Hockey Head Coach Tom O'Malley has announced the addition of three former Pioneers to his coaching staff for the upcoming 2012-13 season. Nicole Palazzo and Jamie Mey from the class of the 2012 and Nicole Farrelly – Pulsen from the class of 2006 join Coach O'Malley as this year's Women's Ice Hockey staff.
Palazzo has been hired as Assistant Coach after leading the team with 17 goals, 13 assists, and 30 points as a senior co-captain last year. She finished her career having played 112 games with 30 goals, 55 assists, and 85 points.
"Nicole was a very instrumental player to our program the last four years," said O'Malley. "The respect the players have for her is going to make her a real asset to making our program continually move forward and get better."
Mey joins the staff as a Graduate Assistant Coach after registering 15 goals, 21 assists, and 36 points in 111 career games.
"Jamie was key player for us the last four years as well. We look forwards to her returning and giving back to the program and relaying her experiences to the current team and helping them achieve more.
Farrelly – Poulsen (2006) returns to the staff as Volunteer Coach after serving as Assistant Coach from 2006-2008 under Coach O'Malley following her four-year playing career. She played in 84 games for the Pioneers, accumulating 15 career points.
"Nicole will bring her playing and coaching expertise to the program as well," said O'Malley. "She has a great wealth of knowledge to share."
"It's great we have three former Pioneer players coming back to the program," added O'Malley. "This is going to help the current team a great deal. I am really happy to have all three return. They are all great people and also have really good hockey minds."
The Pioneers open the 2012-13 season Friday night at the Wonderland of Ice when Sacred Heart hosts RIT at 7:00 pm.
Note: This past weekend, Sacred Heart Women's Hockey hosted its annual alumni game as part of Homecoming Weekend. Twenty alumni ranging from the classes of 1999-2012 took part, the best turnout in 10 years.
