Women's Hockey Strikes Early to Down St. Michael's, 3-0
South Burlington, VT – On the first night of the Annual Doubletree Ice Hockey Classic in South Burlington, VT, the Sacred Heart women's hockey team defeated host St. Michael's (1-9-1), 3-0. The Pioneers struck three times in the first period and junior goaltender Alexius Schutt (Elk River, MN) recorded 30 saves to down the Purple Knights and notch Schutt's first shutout of the season. The Pioneers improve to 8-8-1 on the season.
Sophomore Natasha Klinoff (Concord, MA) got the scoring started for the Pioneers quickly grabbing the 1-0 lead with her sixth goal of the season at 6:49 in the first period. Klinoff was assisted by Sophomore Meagan Souza (Wilmington, MA) and junior Catie Ladner (Chaska, MN). It was Souza's fourth assist and Ladner's ninth assist of the season. Sophomore Casey Stathopoulos extended Sacred Hearts lead at 11:07 in the first with her team leading tenth goal and 17th point of the season. She was assisted by junior Sara Hanna (Lino Lakes, MN), her eighth of the season. Senior Jennifer Hasson (Quakertown, PA) finished the scoring for the Pioneers at 12:15 of the first on an assist by senior Sarah Delany (Whittman, MA), her fourth assist of the season.
The Pioneers are back in action tomorrow against Nichols College on day two of the Doubletree Ice Hockey Classic.
