FAIRFIELD, CT – The Sacred Heart women's hockey team has announced their schedule for the upcoming 2013-14 season. The Pioneers are coming off a season in which they won a program best 18 games in 2013.

The Pioneers open up their 2013-14 campaign on October 13th at home against the University of Rhode Island. SHU hits the road first on October 18th when they travel to take on in-state rival, the Yale Bulldogs.

SHU will have their opportunity for revenge on November 1st when they host Holy Cross, the team that has beaten them the last two seasons in the ECAC Open semi-finals.

The Pioneers will travel to St. Michael's just after the New Year on January 3rd and 4th  for their annual Holiday Tournament. A couple new opponents on the schedule will be Robert Morris, who SHU will host on January 10th, and 11th, and also SUNY Canton, who the Pioneers will play on January 17th and 18th.

Head Coach Tom O'Malley had this to say about the upcoming season:

"I am looking forward to us having another very competitive and solid season; we will miss our graduating class, but will return the nucleus of a very seasoned and capable team.  We will welcome in some very good freshmen that will add to our team. We look forward to having a good year."

The Pioneers are returning starting goaltender, Alexius Schutt (Elk River, MN), and also their two leading scorers from a year ago, juniors Melissa Robbins (Nashua, NH) and Casey Stathopoulos (Waltham, MA).
