Sacred Heart and Stevenson Skate to 3-3 Draw
Reisterstown, MD – The Sacred women's ice hockey team went on the road and tied the Stevenson Mustangs Friday afternoon, 3-3, at Reisterstown Sportsplex. SHU is now 3-3-1 on the season and 1-0-1 against the Mustangs.
Stevenson's Mackenzie Taggart scored two goals, including the game-tying tally with just 19 seconds remaining in the third period to force overtime.
Junior Whitney Henderson
(Elkins, PA) gave Sacred Heart the early 1-0 lead, scoring her first goal of the season at 10:26 of the first period. Senior captain Catie Ladner
(Chaska, MN) scored the other two goals for the Pioneers, both on power play opportunities. Ladner scored her first two goals of the season within two minutes and three seconds of each other in the third period to give SHU a temporary 3-2 lead. Ladner scored the first goal unassisted while juniors Casey Stathopoulos
(Waltham, MA) and Henderson notched assists on the second goal.
Senior goaltender Alexius Schutt (Elkins River, MN) made 33 saves for the Pioneers, including three in the overtime period.
The Pioneers and Mustangs are right back at it tomorrow with opening face-off set for 5:15 pm.
