BIDDEFORD, ME - The Sacred Heart women's ice hockey team skated to a 4-4 draw with the University of New England Friday night at Spartan Arena. The Pioneers are now 3-4-2 on the season.
After allowing four straight goals to fall behind 4-2, SHU scored two third period goals to knot the game at four. Heather Daley (Brewster, NY) scored with just with 33 seconds to tie the game at four.
Hanna Skelley (Wolfeboro, NH) opened up the scoring for the Pioneers, giving SHU a 1-0 lead at 1:31 of the first. Sara Hanna (Lino Lakes, MN) and Alex Davis (Pembroke, MA) notched assists on the goal. Emily Falvey (Hingham, MA) scored Sacred Heart's second goal at 12:56 of the first. Erin Marley (Belchertown, MA) and Megan Finley (Cumberland, ME) recorded the assists.
Down 2-0, the Nor'easters responded with four straight goals to take a 4-2 lead. Emily Corrales started the scoring for UNE, while Jenni Poulin capped off the scoring with back-to-back goals to end the second period. Gabby Crugnale notched assists on both of Poulin goals.
Skelley scored her second goal of the game to cut the score to 4-3 at 14:45 of the third period. Hanna tallied her second assist of the game. With 33 seconds left, Daley came to rescue for the Pioneers, scoring an unnassisted goal to send the game into overtime.
Sacred Heart had four shots in the overtime period but could not find the back of the net.
Pioneers and Nor'easters are back at it again tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 pm.
