Biddeford, ME – For the second consecutive night, the Sacred Heart women's hockey team played extra hockey this time falling 4-3 in overtime to the University of New England Saturday afternoon. SHU drops to 3-5-2 this season.
University of New England's Jenni Poulin found the back of the net at 1:46 of overtime to send the Nor'easters home with the 4-3 victory. Gabby Crugnale recorded the assist of the game-winner. Crugnale also notched a goal at 5:16 of the third to temporarily give the Nor'easters a 3-2 lead.
Cara Curran (Westford, MA) opened the scoring for SHU, knocking home her second goal of the season at 12:28 of the second period. Briana Connolly (Duxbury, MA) recorded her first assist of the season. Following two Nor'easter goals, freshman Emily Falvey (Hingham, MA) knotted the game up at two with her third goal of the season at 3:55 of the third period. Freshman Megan Finlay tallied the assist. Heather Daley (Brewster, NY) scored the Pioneers' final goal of the game, tying the game up at three at 13:15 of the third period. Junior Casey Stathopoulos (Waltham, MA) and senior Megan Ofner (Hamilton, NJ) were credited with the assists.
Sacred Heart has a short turnaround as they head to Wesleyan Tuesday night for a showdown with the Cardinals.
