South Burlington, VT – For the second consecutive game, senior goalie Alexius Schutt (Elk River, MN) made 31 saves, this time in a Sacred Heart 2-1 victory over Plymouth State Saturday afternoon in the final game of the St. Michael's Doubletree Ice Hockey Classic. With the win, Sacred Heart snaps an eight game winless streak and improves to 4-7-4 on the season.
In two games of the St. Michael's Doubletree Classic, Schutt gave up just one goal and made 62 saves in the Pioneers' 1-0-1 tournament run. For her efforts, Schutt was named to the All-Tournament team.
Sacred Heart's leading-scorer Casey Stathopoulos (Waltham, MA) put the Pioneers on the board first at 15:50 of the first period, knocking one past Plymouth State's Ali Ponte to give SHU a 1-0 lead. Jennie Robinson notched the assist on Stathopoulos' fifth goal of the season.
Sophomore Heather Daley (Brewster, NY) hammered home what would end up being the game-winner at 19:46 of the first period. Alanna Woodford (Scituate, MA) and Briana Connolly (Duxbury, MA) snagged assists on Daley's third goal of the season.
Plymouth State cut into the Pioneers lead at 12:55 of the third period on an Emily Auby goal, assisted by Kelsey Lynch.
Sacred Heart was 0-for-5 on the power play and was outshot 32-21.
