CANTON, NY – The Sacred Heart women's hockey team scored three third period goals Saturday afternoon on their way to a 4-1 win over SUNY Canton to earn a weekend split with the Kangaroos. The Pioneers improve to 5-10-5 on the season.
Senior goalie Alexius Schutt (Elk River, MN) made 34 saves to earn the victory for the Pioneers. The Pioneers outshot SUNY Canton, 38-35.
After a scoreless first period, it was junior Natasha Klinoff (Concord, MA) who put Sacred Heart out in front in the second period. Klinoff found the back of the net for the second time in as many games, this time assisted by Megan Ofner (Hamilton, NJ) and Catie Ladner (Chaska, MN).
Forward Alanna Woodford (Scituate, MA) found the net next for SHU on a power play at 14:20 of the third to give SHU a 3-0 lead.
SUNY Canton finally put one on the board with 43 seconds left in the game as Jessica Kistabish scored short-handed to score the Kangaroos' lone goal.
The Pioneers weren't finished yet as just thirty seconds later Casey Stathopoulos (Waltham, MA) capped off the SHU victory with her team-leading seventh goal of the season this season. Klinoff notched her second point of the game with an assist, along with Alex Davis (Pembroke, MA).
SHU was 2-of-7 on the power play.
Sacred Heart will be back in action next Friday night, the 24th, at Franklin Pierce.
