PITTSBURGH, PA (January 22, 2010) – The Sacred Hear University women’s ice hockey team fell to Robert Morris, 10-2, at the Clearview Arena Friday night. Junior forward Sara O’Malley led the way for the Colonials (6-17-1) with a hat trick and one assists. For the Pioneers (5-14-1), junior Brittany Hartman (Prior Lake, MN) netted her 10th goal of the season.
O’Malley scored her first goal of the game 3:28 into the first period. Sacred Heart answered right away as senior forward Kate Dunlop (Flesherton, ON) scored directly off the faceoff won by junior Lauren Fontaine (Windsor, ON). Hartman also assisted on the goal. O’Malley scored again with three minutes remaining in the frame to put the Colonials up 2-1 at the first break.
Sophomore forward Briana Delaney scored her first of two goals eight minutes into the second stanza. From there Robert Morris would take complete control of the game and outscore the Pioneers 8-1 in the second and third periods. Freshman Jennifer Kindret scored two goals and added an assist for the Colonials.
Hartman’s goal came midway through the final period off assists from Dunlop and sophomore defender Nicole Palazzo (Rocky Hill, CT). For Dunlop it was her 11th assist of the year, while Palazzo notched her team-leading 12th of the season.
Freshman netminder Kristen DiCiocco stopped 15 shots to earn the win for Robert Morris. In between the pipes for SHU, freshman Emily Siira (Cedarburg, WI) made 33 saves.
The Pioneers and Colonials battle again tomorrow. The puck is set to drop at 7:00pm.
