PITTSBURGH, PA (January 23, 2010) - The Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team fell to Robert Morris, 13-4, Saturday night as they were swept in the two game series. The Colonials (7-17-1) outscored the Pioneers (5-15-1) 10-0 in the first two periods.
Eleven different skaters netted a goal for Robert Morris. Freshman Jennifer Kindret and Courtney Langston recorded two each, while Kindret added an assist. Sophomore Brianna Delaney and freshman Cobina Delaney registered one goal and two assists apiece.
Sacred Heart scored all four of its goal in the final period. Junior Lauren Fontaine (Windsor, ON), assisted by classmate Brittany Hartman (Prior Lake, MN), notched her team-leading 14th goal of the season. Hartman also scored her 11th of the year, as senior Kate Dunlop (Flesherton, ON) and sophomore Jamie Mey (Middletown, RI) also scored for the Pioneers. Sophomore Nicole Palazzo (Rocky Hill, CT) collected her team-leading 13th assist on the year.
Freshman Kristen DiCiocco started and saved seven shots to earn the win in less than 30 minutes played. Classmate Marissa Angel relieved DiCiocco almost midway through the second period and made 11 stops, while allowing four goals. In net for the Pioneers, sophomore Raelene Sydor (St. Albert, AB) made 21 saves and allowed seven goals in the start. Freshman Emily Siira (Cedarburg, WI) entered past the midway point of the second and gave up six goals and made 20 saves.
The Pioneers return to action Tuesday February 2 for a 7:00 pm game against Williams College at the Wonderland of Ice.
