BRIDGEPORT, CT (February 2, 2010) - After a back and forth first period the Williams College offense exploded for four goals in the second to beat the Sacred Heart women's ice hockey team, 5-1, at the Wonderland of Ice Tuesday night. With the loss the Pioneers have lost six straight to drop to 5-16-1 on the season, while the Ephs improved to 9-7-2.
Junior Taryn Lapierre (Oakland, RI) took a penalty for boarding with nearly a minute left in the first period that left Williams on the man advantage to start the second. Senior Tracey Ferriter netted a goal 30 seconds into the period to put the Ephs on top. She scored her second goal of the period 7:21 in and would also collect an assist as sophomore Eliza Foster sniped a goal from the right side inside the blue line with less than a second remaining in the second frame.
Down 4-0 in the third SHU sophomore Nicole Palazzo (Rocky Hill, CT) netted her third goal of the season to break up the shutout.
Senior goaltender Sara Plunkett made 31 saves to earn the victory for Williams. In net for the Pioneers, sophomore Raelene Sydor (St. Albert, AB) stopped 24 shots.
