Women's Ice Hockey Drops 11-4 Contest to Maine

ORONO, ME (September 26, 2009) - The Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team fell to the University of Maine, 11-4, Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Pioneers to 0-2, while the Black Bears start the season 2-0.
Maine struck early and often with seven goals in the first period. Senior forward Abby Barton and sophomore forward Myriam Croussette each scored twice to lead the Black Bear attack. Senior forward Jenna Ouellette registered four assists.
Junior forwards Lauren Fontaine (Windsor, ON/Catholic Central) and Brittany Hartman (Prior Lake, MN/Edina) each tallied a goal as did sophomore forwards Nicole Palazzo (Rocky Hill, CT/Westminster) and Sara Reddington (Needham, MA/Needham). Palazzo also recorded a pair of assists.
Freshman goaltender Brittany Ott recorded the win while posting 11 saves in net for Maine. SHU sophomore Raelene Sydor (St. Albert, AB/St. Albert-Kal-Tire Slash) allowed three goals and made one save in just five minutes between the pipes. Freshman backup goalie Emily Siira (Cedarsburg, WI/Wisconsin Wild) made 27 saves, while allowing eight goals in 55 minutes of play.
The Pioneers return to action Saturday October 3 and 2:00 pm at Quinnipiac University.
